The article by Maureen Dowd is making the point that this is a country of
'LIVE AND LET LIVE"--at least it is supposed to be. We can make our points and
our arguments for political candidates, presidents, legislatures---good or
bad--and are THANKFUL that we live in a country just where we can do that. I am so
sick of Christians---and yes, I am a Christian ---spouting the Bible all the
time. There is NO HISTORICAL fact that there ever was a man named Jesus that
walked the earth--am I wrong??? I call myself a Christian because I try to live
as this man said life should be lived---not because I KNOW HE WAS THE SON OF
GOD. I read the Bible as a book of instruction--NOT LAW. So by the consensus
of some of my Christian friends I am going to HELL. Well, until someone who
has been to heaven or hell and come back to tell me about this biblical
place--I am not going to worry about it. I live what I hope is a good life,
kindness, understanding, and above all loving all--good or bad--not because I am
worried about my salvation but because IT IS THE THING TO DO. This business of our
government mixing into marriages is reverting to segregation days---the races
were not legally allowed to marry. Do you know the Mormon faith at one time
did not allow black people into the church---they were considered the mark of
Cain that the Bible speaks of--their blackness was "the mark". How much do most
Christians know of the history of their faith---the terrible transgressions
that went on to promote it. Oh boy, I prolly will catch--whatever--for saying
all this. But my family of 24 members are so diverse, agnostic, hard shell
Baptist, Catholic, Episcopalians, Mormon---somehow we all get along. I hope it is,
at least in some sense, the result of raising my children to be TOLERANT--to
believe what they want but honor the other people and what they believe. So
far our president has lied to us about WMD, 500 military killed---and he wants
to explore Mars!!!! He says the economy is excellent----statistics don't prove
so. He has made the least of press conferences of just about ANY president.
No, I am sorry, I do not think he is a good man for president---sadly I am not
happy about the democrats choices, either. BUT GOOD BLESS AMERICAN THAT I CAN
SAY ALL THIS---and won't get shot for it!!!
