In case you haven't heard, a recent news report says that Homeland Security
Defense funds are being CUT, by 40%, for Washington DC and NYC. The reason
initially given was, there are no important monuments or other sites, in
either city that warrant the $$. When questioned on that evaluation, Homeland
Security said the "applications" for the funds were wrongly sent by FAX, rather
than via the Internet, as they "require". The cut funds are to be
distributed to Florida, Omaha NE, and Vermont, and possibly some others. Vermont is
getting more, per capita, that NYC, under the new allocations.

Apparently, Homeland Security regards the Statue of Liberty, the "symbol" of
America, the Capitol. the White House, our monuments and beautiful
buildings as unimportant, and unworthy of being protected. After all, Liberty is
"just" a statue, the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, the monuments to our
war veterans, are "just" granite or marble, and have no meaning or
importance. In other words, no big loss to America.

My first visit to DC was on my HS graduating class-trip. We climbed Liberty
in 3" heels, all the way to the torch! We went to the Capitol, the
Smithsonion, the Mall, Arlington, Jefferson's home, and saw/touched the
representations of the sometimes-boring history we learned in school It clarified the
meaning of being an American. I have been there several times since, and have
not yet lost the "meaning" of it. The Wall and nearby Nurses monument moved
me to tears I was at the Dedication of WIMSA. I still hope to get back, one
more time, to see the WW2 and the Korean War Memorials. To me, Washington is
America, excluding our elected representatives, at times.

It has been reported, in some sectors (about a year or two ago), that our
"new" Capitol is to be moved to Colorado, and that some Gov't agencies have
started moving their offices there, allegedly in underground facilities. Does
this indicate that the rumor of the move is indeed true?.If true, then DC will
shortly be unimportant, therefor, "expendable".
I don't know how you feel, but this really infuriates me! How about you?
