Dear Ms. Holcombe:

Margaret Salm (Wac) suggested that I contact you as you could help spread the word about two projects via
your email list.

Our Institute was recently contacted by Joe Freitus, who is compiling a book on women's experiences during
our country's wars (World War II to the present). Now, he wants first-person manuscripts for "War Stories: the Women."
His book and others in the series will be for high school social studies classes.
For more information, please contact him:

The other project is ours, The Institute on World  War II and the Human Experience.

We are looking for letters, diaries, photographs, memoirs, documents, and other memorabilia from women
who served during WW II. Currently, we have over 3,000 collections but the majority of them pertain to
the men's experiences during the war. And, in June 2001, NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw donated to us his
collection of materials that people sent him during the past few years while he has been working on
his books concerning "The Greatest Generation." But, again, most of the recollections and materials deal
with men.

We want to encourage all women who participated in the war to consider donating their items to our
Institute. Our collections are used by researchers and students and in classrooms. Recently, we had
documentary film producers use our collections for the "Color of War" series presently seen on the
History Channel.
